The red cells attack networks set up by blue cell teams. The blue cells defend their networks against the red cell attacks. The gray cells act as regular internet traffic. It’s the NSA’s CyberDefense Exercise 2010 (CDX 2010). Five US service academies participate in this high stakes exercise of attack and defense of cyber networks.
This three day exercise included teams from the U.S. Air Force Academy, U.S. Coast Guard Academy, U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, U.S. Naval Academy, and West Point. During the CDX, network specialists challenge the academy teams to defend their networks against sophisticated cyberattacks.
